These two Rigging Training courses are designed for workers using mechanical systems who must hoist loads to at-height locations on various structures for work purposes.

 

Students will learn best practices that keep workers safe and more efficient on the job resulting in less time and cost for the employer.

DESCRIPTION

COURSE OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES

 

Does your crew require tool bags, antennas, dishes, structural steel or other objects to be hoisted in order to complete the job?

 

This course focuses on determining the correct type of rigging equipment required to safely perform lifting operations.

 

The systems used throughout the duration of this course are designed to raise, haul and lower loads to elevated positions using safe methods.

 

Custom applications are also available for heavier loads and Mechanical hoists, winches and capstans.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive the Safety One Certification and will be able to:

  • Perform inspections for rigging equipment
  • Conduct basic rigging calculations
  • Understand simple, compound, and complex systems for hoisting

COURSE DURATION

 

One Day for Competent Rigging Training (8 hours)

Two Days for Qualified Rigging Training (16 hours)

CLASS SIZE: Maximum 8 (1 Instructor)

This Rigging Training course is designed for workers who must hoist loads to at-height locations on various structures for work purposes when using mechanical systems, i.e.

  • Telecom and electric utility lineman, wireless tower workers, and more.

PREREQUISITES FOR THIS COURSE

 

No formal prerequisites for this course.

OSHA

 

These standard courses will satisfy the OSHA level of training as follows:

  • Competent Rigger: One Day (Covers rigging principles for many applications)
  • Qualified Rigger: Two Days (Covers critical lifts and gin pole applications)

OUTLINE FOR THIS COURSE

 

Classroom Training Covering the Following Topics

 

Rope Rigging Equipment and Inspections

  • Shackles, Hooks, Wire rope, Master links, Turnbuckles, Deck chain
  • Common rigging knots and hitches
  • Blocks and Running Rigging
  • Slings, Anchors and attachments
  • Dynamic loading principals
  • Attaching the load – Bridle systems and hardware
  • Moving the load – Tag lines and safety precautions, Raising and lowering, hauling and guideline systems
  • Communication and signals
  • Mechanical advantage – Understanding simple, compound, and complex systems for hoisting
  • Basic Rigging Calculations
  • Safe working loads vs. minimum breaking strengths – common misconceptions
  • Guidelines for forces applied to anchors and directional in your system

 

Field Training

  • The field training session will consist of hands on training where students will participate in rigging and hoisting exercises on the structure.
  • Students will apply classroom knowledge to real world practice under direct supervision of Instructors in a fun and informative environment.

COURSE MATERIALS

 

Students will receive the Safety One Rigging Training Student Manual and other materials necessary for the course.
