In April of 2015, OSHA mandated 100% fall protection techniques for lineman and other climbers working at heights on transmission structures in the US as part of the final rule in 1910.269.
The Challenges: The largest challenges to become compliant with this standard came from tight deadlines and an exponential increase in orders for equipment manufacturers. Additionally, transmission tower structures were not originally designed for those applications, so many structural challenges were presented as well.
The Safety One Solutions: Our team at Safety One Training assessed the situation quickly, developed, and implemented a specially customized program to hundreds of climbers in a period of 60 days from project start to finish. A second custom curriculum was also developed to train the climbers using a whole new set of unique climbing equipment that was selected by PG&E’s equipment committee.
“They gave us exactly what we needed. Their experience was evident and we were glad that we decided to bring them in on this.”
