With the deaths of 10 tower workers so far this year, much attention is being brought to the industry in a negative light. At Safety One, we focus our efforts on climber safety & rescue training and certification. However, there are many other factors that can contribute to the fatalities we are seeing. Recently I blogged about a climber who was nearly killed after being hit on the head by a falling antenna.
I have always been a believer in research and history to determine future trends and accidents. Going back to basics can help identify future problems. I recently ran across an old article from 2011 regarding the importance of regular tower and site maintenance. It seems timely to bring it to the front again and remind people of some of the most basic principals of safety, the structure itself. Read more here.
