Much of the hands-on practical training is conducted utilizing our
customized training nacelle, for more real-world simulated practice.

DESCRIPTION

COURSE OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES

 

The wind energy industry is growing significantly and safety concerns continue to rise, particularly with regard to climbing techniques and potential rescue situations.

 

Wind turbine technicians can face many unique challenges when performing a rescue, including: confined spaces, electrical hazards, varying platforms and ladder systems, fires, and more.

 

Upon successful completion of these courses, students will receive
certification through GWO’s WINDA system and a Safety One
Training certification.

COURSE DURATION: Dependent upon BST module(s).

CLASS SIZE: Maximum 6 (1 Instructor)

AUDIENCE & PREREQUISITES

AUDIENCE

 

This Wind Turbine Competent Climbing & Rescue course is designed for students who work at height on wind turbines, i.e.

  • Wind turbine installation/maintenance worker
  • Wind turbine technicians working in or on top of the nacelle

REGULATIONS & STANDARDS

OSHA

 

This course meets the requirements of OSHA Regulation.

 

A substantial portion of the Standard Fall Protection Safety & Rescue Certification training covers OSHA certification topics such as

  • OSHA 1910 and 1926 safety requirements
  • The physics of falls
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Fall protection concepts and safety equipment
  • Treatment of frequently encountered tower injuries
  • Documentation
  • Rescue deployment options

ANSI/ASSE

 

ANSI/ASSE Z359

This course uses compliant safety methods from ANSI Z490.1

COURSE CONTENT

  • Working at Heights – Proper inspection, use, and care of PPE as well as self and assisted rescue.
  • Manual Handling – Risk reduction of musculoskeletal injury while working in and around wind turbines.
  • Fire Awareness – Fire safety, prevention, and extinguishing of small-scale fires in and around wind turbines.
