Bucket Truck or Aerial Lift Training

Safety One’s Bucket Truck and Aerial Lift Training courses were developed for industries using various types of lift trucks and truck-mounted aerial devices.

Designed specifically around the regulations and guidelines set forth by OSHA and ANSI, this eight-hour course covers everything from inspecting the lift for use before work, fundamentals of a proper tailboard meeting, and operating the lift safely to proper emergency procedures should a problem arise.

DESCRIPTION

COURSE OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES

This course will include basic operator safety procedures, with a focus on proper fall protection equipment and techniques along with emergency procedures and rescue evacuation training.

Topics will also include industry best practices to stay compliant with recent industry changes.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive the Safety One Bucket Truck or Aerial Lift Certification and will be able to:

  • Maintain proper attachment while working at elevated positions
  • Perform inspections of equipment, trucks, and work sites for hazard areas
  • Apply various rescue procedures and evacuation methods

COURSE DURATION: One Day (8 hours)

This Bucket Truck / Aerial Lift training course is designed for workers who are required to operate Aerial Lifts and/or Bucket Trucks on the jobsite, including;

  •    Utility workers
  •    Telecom and Wireless workers
  •    Construction workers
  •    Signage workers
  •    Many others

OSHA requires workers in aerial lifts to have proper fall protection training and have a means of prompt rescue in place prior to conducting work.

COURSE OUTLINE

Classroom Training Covering the Following Topics

  • Standards and Regulations – OSHA vs. ANSI
  • Tailboard briefings – Doing it right!
  • Site hazards – case histories to learn from
  • Ground crew safety and procedures
  • Truck Inspections
  • Fall Protection – Equipment, inspections, proper application, do’s and don’ts
  • Rescue Considerations – Are you prepared?
  • Conscious vs. unconscious operator
  • Operator suspended outside of bucket mid air
  • Operator evacuation self-rescue using personal escape rope system
  • Rescue of an unconscious operator from vertically locked bucket
  • Suspension trauma – recognition and patient packaging

Field Training

  • Students will perform truck inspections and run through a full checklist including possible hazard areas that have been known to cause accidents if neglected.
  • Operators will be required to demonstrate proficiency in basic operations and emergency procedures.
  • Various rescue scenarios will be given and appropriate rescue techniques will be explained throughout.
    • Rescues will include patient packaging for suspension trauma (if applicable), and report to EMS.
    • Bucket bailout (self rescue)
  • The field training session will end with a debriefing in the classroom and a quick discussion of the topics covered.
  • Students will have time for questions regarding equipment and advice for establishing company rescue plans and kits if desired.
